Programs

Kidsafe ACT undertakes a variety of safety programs. These programs are designed to create awareness of the current safety issues that are affecting children’s safety and to provide practical support for families in improving the safety environment for children in their care.

The Kidsafe Safety Programs involve:

  • Distribution of information and guidance on specific safety issues.
  • Research that helps families and government to improve injury outcomes
  • Ongoing services that directly support the improvement of safety outcomes for children.

Kidsafe ACT’s safety programs help to create awareness of the dangers to children. If you are interested in supporting Kidsafe ACT or finding out more about our safety program call us on 6290 2244 or contact us at any of our locations.

Programs are funded by a combination of multi-year contracts with the ACT Government and our major sponsors, specific program-related grants, donations from the public and the cash flow from our shop front and ongoing support services for families.

The programs fit within a broad strategy that focuses on:

  • Sustainable support for families as they change their safety-related behaviours
  • Integration of services and initiatives to maximise both the impact and sustainability
  • Evidence-based injury improvement initiatives

Current programs include

  • Pre and Primary School Road Safety Program
This Program focuses on providing parents and families with information to help make their children safer and to support safety-related curriculum activities at schools. The Program includes distribution of a number of brochures on car restraint standards and usage (including the implementation of new National road Rules and standards expected to be brought in over 2008/09), free restraints checks at schools, distribution of related Fact sheets and newsletter articles and extension of Kidsafe Community Talks program into school parent communities. Drawing competitions for Pre School and Primary School students that will support the information going to families.
